Community Support

VOLUNTEERISM

Volunteerism is not only a social service at a time of crisis nor is it a casual pastime - a wrongly held common belief.

Volunteerism is a spirited way of participating in the community with an eye toward bettering society as a whole.  A volunteer must commit to deeds, not just spout words.  A volunteer makes friends and learns to understand and adjust to different people and challenging situations.

Therefore, Mandoulides Schools extends the invitation to every student to participate in this worthy endeavor.

Areas of involvement:
  • Participation with the creative extra-curricular activities laboratory in helping people with physical disabilities
  • Participation in programs providing activities and entertainment for adolescent patients in pediatric clinics
  • Participation in creative activities for people with deterred vision
  • Offering care and comfort to elderly people and residents of geriatric centers
  • Financial and moral support to Greek schools abroad.
If we show respect for our fellow man regardless of race, color, creed or background and accept him as an individual, then we have taken the first step toward building a better community. If we open our hearts to those in need, if we help them on their journey through life, then we will surely improve their lot in life and find, along the way, that we, too, are better citizens for having made the commitment to others. Our fellow neighbors do not need pity, sorrow or smothering care and attention, what they want is all they need; an honest, caring person available to them to help with their day-to-day emotional and practical needs, but above all - genuine LOVE! The love -and I’m quoting a poem here- that has never said the last word, the love that can’t be counted, the love that always surprises…

BLOOD BANK

ONE DROP OF BLOOD! RED LIKE LOVE, WARM LIKE HUMANNESS...
Mandoulides Schools, regarding blood donation as an invaluable contribution to society and knowing that demand for blood is constantly growing, have founded a blood bank, where faculty and staff as well as pupils’ parents and guardians donate blood voluntarily.

Love is the beginning, the middle and the completion of gifts, thus a unique divine gift. This has been proved through Mandoulides Schools’ voluntary blood donation. Voluntary blood donation is the most important indication of real humanity. The willingness to offer without expecting a reward is an innate human characteristic, indicative of people with moral values and emotions. In these hard times, let us not treat each other with indifference. Let us show our love and let a fellow human being’s face shine with hope!
