DIONISIS SAVVOPOULOS, THE ORHESTRA AND THE CHOIR AT THE HISTORIC ZOGRAFIO IN ISTANBUL
Mandoulides Schools and the historic Zografio School of Istanbul held a unique concert with songwriter Dionisis Savvopoulos, who was accompanied by the orchestra and choir of Mandoulides Schools and the choir of Zografio, on Sunday 11th April 2010, at the Zografio ceremonial hall in Istanbul.
The event was honoured by the presence of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew spoke after the end of the concert about the manifold work of multitalented Dionisis Savvopoulos, underscoring that “his works are imbued with humanness, with great responsibility towards the Nation’s history and its current reality, with a lot of sensitivity for the doubts and worries of the youth, with a lot of Greek spirit”.
The Patriarch did not fail to refer to Mandoulides Schools students, saying: “We thank Mandoulides Schools children, who tonight, along with our children of Zografio, like cherubs in school uniforms, opened their wings, mouths and hearts, and, along with the great master. took us high to bourns of emotion and aesthetic delight. It smelt of spring at Zografio tonight, in parallel with the spring of the Resurrection of Christ and the natural spring of fair April. Come again! The youth of the remaining Greeks need your presence! We all do! Constantinople needs it! Besides, here you are not strangers! Constantinople is always the Holy Zion of the Nation-that is, the parents’ house of each and every one of us!”
The event was greeted by Zografio Headmaster Mr. Ioannis Dermitzoglou, Mandoulides Schools CEO Mrs. Aikaterini Mandoulidou and Mandoulides Schools Director of Studies Mrs. Aspa Hasioti, who had conceived the idea and was in charge of the organization of the event.

The event was first successfully presented in March 2009 in Thessaloniki on the occasion of the celebration of 30 years of creation and contribution to education of Mandoulides Schools. This concert proves the love of top Greek troubadour Dionisis Savvopoulos for education and the Greeks of Istanbul, it constitutes an important contribution to them and a minimal token of honor to the historic Zografio, which has been diffusing the Greek education and civilization to the Greek children of Istanbul for 117 years now.

However, the modern principles of the educational process also pertain to the support of teaching out of school with the use of electronic tools. Since last year Mandoulides Schools have been implementing an electronic platform for distance learning enriched with digital content and communication tools. So, students and teachers can operate outside the hours of courses, always with a view to a more effective support of the educational process. Especially 7th graders acquire the experience needed for a more effective use of the Internet services.
